Letter from Auditions Chair

Greetings CNYFL-NATS Colleagues –

I wanted to remind about our Chapter Auditions, which will be held on Saturday, October 26th at State University of New York at Fredonia.  Our site coordinators (Dr. Angela Haas), and I are very excited about them and hope that you are all already considering students to bring.

I also wanted to remind us all of some changes that were instituted during last two years:

1. The attendance policy for teachers has been simplified, in hopes of making it easier for teachers and to benefit as many students as possible.  There are no longer fees or extra limits on the number of students that a non-attending teacher can send (that is to say, they have the same limitations as somebody attending), but they must send in their place a NATS member in good standing who is not sending students the the auditions.

In this way, it guarantees that all students will have a better chance of obtaining feedback from at least three judges,  and that more students might be able to participate.

2. We have added a lower division to the musical theatre categories, open to collegiate freshmen and sophomores.  They will be required to offer 3 pieces, and they must include the following, which may overlap: A legit piece, a belt piece, and a piece that pre-dates 1965.  Operetta is not required, but may be used.

For more information about Student Auditions, don’t be afraid to ask me, but you can/should also look at our website:  www.natscnyfl.org and click on the drop-down under “Student Auditions.”

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with me, and please forward this info to any of our colleagues who are NATS members, but who may not be current in the chapter and may not be receiving this email.

If your student is using a staff pianist, you do need to send the music to me, but you will still need legal copies at the auditions.  Music can be scanned and sent to me at this address, or you can mail them to me here:
